After reading Lunsford's article about writing centers I found out that the writing center at University of South Carolina at Aiken has a writing center that Lunsford would consider a "Garret"style writing center. The writing center at USCA does have people there to help but most of the work relies on the individual student's actions. The writing center has computers for individual people to work on their own writing assignments. Although there are people to help you if you need it for collaborative work. Yes you can access outside material from the computers, like the "storehouse" centers described by Lunsford, but the focus of the center is still the individual or group doing the work. It seemed that the students for the most part already had their research done and where using the computer more has a typewriter and not a digital access media. Also considering that their were people there collaborating on work further weakens the idea that the USCA center is a "storehouse" center. Lunsford stated that "storehouse" centers do not usually use collaboration to accomplish work. The center at USCA is a "Garret" style center due to its reliance on individual work and collaborative work to accomplish it's goal. The center is not a "storehouse" because there is collaborative work, and not too much reliance on outside information to help the students, yes there are computers but students use them has typewriters and not to access outside information.
